He attended school at Moffit and as a young man worked for and lived with his uncle, Emmet Carroll. During this time his father passed away and his mother married Asa Werner. He lost his eyesight many years ago due to an eye disease in the family, that doesn't stop Bud, he is quite a trader (buys, sells or trades anything) — he could probably sell a refrigerator to an Eskimo. He knows everybody and loves people — never forgets a voice. Just tap him on the shoulder and say "Hi, Bud" and he'll know you and probably call you by your first name. Bud suffered a heart attack a couple of years ago but is getting along fine. He resides in Steele, ND. DAVID AND DELRENE MILLS David L. Mills was born at his home in Burr Oak, Emmons County, (the home of his grandfather), on Jan. 24, 1925. He is the oldest son of the late Henry C. Mills and Elizabeth Klein Mills Hohimer. His great-grandparents on his dad's side were Clemens and Katherine Vandenburg Clooten. Clemens was born in Belgium in 1827. He immigrated to the United States settling in Minnesota. During the Civil War, Clemens was a captain in the army. Ka.therine was born in Holland in 1842 and immigrated to the United States, also settling in Minnesota. They married in Minnesota, then came to North Dakota in 1881 where they homesteaded in Naughton township. They had six children. One of the daughters, Katherine, was born in 1871 and died in 1933. She married Chris Mills, who was born April 1, 1861, and died Oct. 29, 1925. They farmed in Burr Oak township until they retired and moved to Bismarck. David's dad, Henry C. Mills, was one of the five children from Chris Mills and Katherine Clooten Mills. Henry was born Jan. 14, 1897, and died in October 1970. He farmed in Burr Oak and on July 7, 1922, he married Elizabeth Klien. She was born May 18, 1904, at St. Anthony in Morton County. She attended grade school and high school there. They had three children: David, Beverly Mills Olson of Driscoll, and Delores Mills Olson of Steele. They were divorced and Henry married Frances Brown of Minot, ND. They moved to a farm in Telfer township, Burleigh County, which they bought and lived there until they retired and moved to Bismarck, ND. There were three children: Dennis Mills, Sharon Mills Franklin of Ryder, ND, and Kay Mills Dahl of Hazelton, ND. David's grandparents on his mother's side were George Klien and Anna Platzer. George was born March 29, 1854, and died April 23, 1927. He came here from Appleton, Germany, and married Anna Platzer, who was born Jan. 12, 1863, and died Feb. Mr. and Mrs. George Klien 22, 1951. She came from Italy. They had 15 children. David's mother married again to George Hohimer on Dec. 9, 1938. They have three children: George Hohimer, Jr. of McKenzie; Karen Hohimer Hogue of Bismarck, and Diane Hohimer Thomas of Tempe, AZ. Mrs. Elizabeth Hohimer, better known as Lizzy, lives in McKenzie, ND. Henry & Francis Mills George & Elizabeth Hohimer £ & # X '?t*\?
