Marie's father, a Metis, son of a trader, was the village blacksmith and manufactured wagons, sleighs, cutters, buggies, etc. At that time there were still buffalo, deer, antelope, elk, moose, coyotes, beaver and mink to hunt and trap, along with ducks, geese and prairie chickens. One of the earliest transportation trails led from Olga to Fort Totten and from Olga into Canada. The family moved to Belcourt in the 1880s. Children of the second marriage were: Virginie married John B. Plante, Moses M. married Lucie Gardner, daughter of George Gardner and Anastasia Saice, Louis Phillip, and Veronique married William J. Thomas, son of Thomas Thomas and Marguerite Herman. in Rolla; Lucie was a milliner/dressmaker. Moses died May 27, 1922, while Lucie passed away November 19, 1959. Moses and Lucy (Gardner) Godon, parents of Marion Gilland. MOSES M. GODON—LUCIE ISABEL GARDENER Moses M. Godon, born September 8,1873, son of Louis Godon and Marie LaRocque, married Lucie Isabel Gardner, born November 30, 1881, daughter of George Gardner and Annie Anastasia Saice, at Minnewauken, North Dakota in January of 1905. They lived in Minnewauken where their daughter, Marion, was born. Lucie was a graduate of Haskell Institute and was a dining room matron at Kashena, Wisconsin when she married. Moses graduated from Tailoring and Music at Fort Totten. He later had a tailor shop in Minnewaukan and St m Alexander Gourneau (1867 to March 3, 1931, husband of Margaret Daignault. ALEXANDER GOURNEAU — MARGARET DAIGNAULT Alexander Gourneau was born in 1867, and married Margaret Daignault, born in 1881, at Belcourt. They had three children: Annie, Emil and John. Margaret died November 6, 1908 while Alexander passed away March 3,1931. Their daughter Annie was married to Alex Albert and had two sons-Fayes and Kade. Their son John married Rose Brunelle and their two children are Eileen and Johnny Gourneau.
