The oldest son, Leo, is married to Genevieve Pfau from Esmond and lives in Esmond. Frank married Pauline Burgard from Esmond and also lives there. Felix married Irene Sosalla from Baker and lives in Baker. Fred is married and lives in Snohomish, Washington. John married and lives in San Lorenzo, California with the Navy for 36 years. Matt married an Esmond girl, Helen Vetter, and lives in Aleutian Islands of Alaska. Eddie married Bessie Morril from Fillmore and lives in Minot. Evelyn, the only daughter, is married and lives in Santa Rosa, California. Nick also married a girl from Esmond, Pat Tollerud, and lives in San Lorenzo, California, Mike, the bachelor, lives at home with their mother at Seattle, Washington. Pete is married and lives in Seattle. Richard is married and lives in Everett, Washington. To this family there was born 43 grandchildren, and 45 great-grandchildren. To this family there were eight boys who served in Armed Forces starting in 1939 in different branches of the service and different theatres of action. All enlisted through Benson County which is one of largest enlistments from Benson County served during Second World War, Korean War and Viet Nam. CARL EHRHARDT Carl Ehrhardt was born February 1, 1877 in Filmore County, Minnesota. It is believed that he homesteaded in section 24 several miles southeast of Baker. According to 1910 Atlas his mother owned a quarter of land in Section 23 at that time. Carl Ehrhardt was married to Pearl King, who had a daughter, Luella, and a son Jim by a previous marriage. He carried on a good sized operation and was very progressive. It is estimated that he left Broe Township in the early twenties. Mrs. Ehrhardt passed away in 1951 and Carl died September 13, 1964. Daughter Luella is Mrs. Elder C. Ohlson and lives in Elgin, Illinois. The Ehrhardt land was sold to Lawrence Pederson, who farmed there several years and then sold to Ronald Djoseland. CHRIST ERICKSON Christ Erickson was married to an Engebretson from Leeds and they lived on the southwest quarter of Section 15 in Broe Township for a number of years. They had two children: Leo and Clara. They moved away from the locality in the early twenties. It is said that they moved to Rochester, Minnesota. HARRY EVERT FAMILY Harry and Maude Evert were married July 14, 1921 and arrived by train at Baker the latter part of July. Mr. Evert was hired to run the Spaulding Elevator. Two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Evert while they were in Baker. Elizabeth was born July 27,1922 and David was born March 27,1924. Mr. and Mrs. Evert left Baker in June 1928, as they had purchased an elevator in Bathgate. In 1945 they bought an elevator in Argyle, Minn. In 1959, they sold their home and elevator in Argyle and bought a cottage on White Earth Lake not far from Mahnomem, Minn. They spent the winter in St. Petersburg Florida. In 1960, June 20th Harry passed away. In 1966, Mrs. Evert sold her lake home and built a small home in Argyle, Minn. Where she was born. Harry was born in the area between Argyle and Stephan, Minn. Elizabeth is married and lives in Spartanburg, S. Carolina. David is married and runs an elevator in Sterling. \mcs~ ANDREW " ANDY"FIELD FAMILY Andrew Field was born in Sweden about 1879. He migrated with his parents from Sweden in 1883. He lived in Minneapolis during his childhood. At a relatively young age, he obtained employment with the Western Union. He subsequently learned telegraphy and qualified for the position of station agent with the railroad. He first went to work for the Northern Pacific. In his early hears with the railroad, Mr. Field was a relief agent and would fill in for a regular agent during vacations and illnesses, and other temporary absences. Myrtle Field was born in 1885 to parents who migrated from Norway in 1867 and first settled at Halfway Creek north of LaCross, Wisconsin. The family moved to Cottonwood County in an uncovered wagon in 1872 and lived in a sod cellar for two years before a log cabin was built.
