ELWOOD M. CORBY and ESTHER M. ZINNEL Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Corby Michael and Catherine Elwood, son of Michael and Helga Haagensen Corby, was born February 1, 1920, in Buffalo, North Dakota. He was educated in the Buffalo schools and graduated from Buffalo High School in 1938. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. On March 8, 1946, he was married to Esther M. Zinnel, daughter of Henry and Agnes Zinnel of West Bend, Iowa. They have two children, Michael of Redding, California, and Catherine of San Diego, California. Elwood and Esther are members of Grace Lutheran Church where he is financial secretary. They have made their home in San Diego since 1947. He was employed at the Naval Air Station, retiring after thirty years of service. GORDON CORBY and RUTH COCHRANE Gordon Corby, the second son of Isaac and Annie Kringler Corby, was born April 19, 1904, at Buffalo, North Dakota. When he was four years old his family moved to Valley City, North Dakota, where he received his education. After graduation from college, he moved to Jamestown, North Dakota, where he later married Ruth Cochrane of Leith, North Dakota. They have a son, Donald, who, with his family of six children, resides in Aurora, Colorado. Donald is a Doctor of Pediactrics. He is a colonel in the Army and is head of the medical research at Fitzsimmons General Hospital, Denver, Colorado. Gordon and Ruth Corby live in Grafton, North Dakota, where they have now retired. ISAAC CORBY and ANNIE KRINGLER Isaac Corby, born June 6, 1869, at Hammerfest, the most northern city in Norway, came to the United States in 1886. He and Annie Kringler, the daughter of Nels and Ellen Marie Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Corby Wedding picture, November 30,1898 Kringler, early Dakota Territory homesteaders, were married in 1898. Isaac Corby worked as a contractor in the Buffalo, North Dakota, area, building many of the structures still in use. One of these was the original Lutheran Church edifice. During the construction of the church he was injured in a fall from a broken scaffold. The Harvey Coon home, the original W.H. Miller farm home, and that of Francis Smylie are two of the houses he erected. Others that Mr. Corby worked for as a carpenter include Frank Talcott, S.G. More, and A.W. Mohr. Isaac Corby assisted his brother Mike, and a sister, Marie (Mrs. Adolph Anderson) to come from their home in Norway to settle in the Buffalo community. Mike and Isaac worked together as contractors. They also owned a restaurant and pool hall in Buffalo in 1911.
