Description
Summary:cows. We moved to the Gertrude Irving farm and started farming which is located in Mott Township 134 range 93W section 19. Oscar's life was farming and community in- volvment, and served on many boards. We lived on this farm for 29 years, raising our family of 5 children. Linda Darlene, born January 26, 1947, now married to Rev. Edmond Zimmerman, live in Turtle Lake, North Dakota, where they serve the Zion Congregational Church, have two children Sharon Kay and Benjamin Justin. DeWane Glenn Schaible, born June 22, 1948 is married to Debbie Kruger, have two children, Anthony Lee (Tony) and Tessica Joy. DeWane and Debbie live in Regent, DeWane is in Conklin business and does roofing. Delmar Dale, born July 27, 1954, is married to Sharon Kay Huether, daughter of Arthur and Bernice Huether, Mott. They have one son, Jarin Delmar. Delmar and Sharon are now living on the family farm and farming. Timothy Oscar was born October 9, 1956 is single and at the present, is working at the State Industrial School as a Counselor. Beverly Kay, born March 20, 1961 is married to Ron Reich, a farmer. Beverly works at the Production Credit Office in Mott, they have one daughter, Stephannie Jo, born November 20, 1983. Some of our joys and heartaches—in January 1975 we moved into our dream-home, which we helped build and put many long hours into it. But life is very uncertain, when your dreams are fulfilled and then, like an earthquake it's all gone, that's what our life in the new house ended up, with Oscar taken June 1, 1977, from this earth to a new home to be with the Lord, as I write this after nearly eight Congratulations Regent On Your 75th Anniversary Meet your friends at the Cannonball Saloon Ron - Shirley - Ronda - Ryan Kudrna Regent, ND 563-4626 years, it seems like only yesterday. How short our lives here on earth are. Another part of my life that has been hard to accept was when our son, Timothy Oscar, then 6, fell into a grain elevator on August 6, 1962 and lost his right arm,. Tim is well adjusted and works with problem children at the State Industrial School at Mandan, North Dakota. We had many hail storms, bad years, good years on the farm. I remember when we got married, those were the days you couldn't buy sheets, so we made them out of flour sacks, also stamps were needed to buy a pair of shoes, I remember my little sister Linda Louisea, had to give up her stamps for a pair of wedding shoes for me. I also remember my wedding dress costing $15.00 and my veil $12.00, shoes $1.98. Today the tax would be more than my whole outfit cost. I also remember dressing pheasants on the kitchen floor because we had no table when we first got married. My first washing machine had no motor so Oscar hooked an elevator motor to it, and did we wash chothes, the machine went around and around. Flossie and Albert Schaible lived with us then, and we took turns sitting on the motor holding it down. Those were the days when you used what you had, if you didn't have, you did without it. I really wonder how grandma did it? I am sure she did with a lot less. America, what a great country today, with blessings untold. Edith (Hegge) Wothe Verne and Edith Wothe with daughters Marilyn and June. Edith was born October 2,1918 on a farm southwest of Regent in Alden township. My father Palmer Hegge moved from Wesby, Wisconsin, my mother Carrie Greenland came from Norway. I had two sisters Marion and June, one brother Ingvald. I attended elementary school at Wieland's school. My teachers were Myrtle Hockerson, Geneva Hagen, Myrtle Hawthorne, Frances Wieland, Willard Olson and Irma Vasey. Transportation to school was mostly by horse and buggy. In the winter time when the snow was too deep we used a sleigh, which had a canvas cover over the top to keep us warm. We also used warmed bricks wrapped in gunny sacks to warm our feet and lots of blankets. I especially remember the potatoes we baked in the stove at school for our noon lunch to eat 70 Scanned with a Zeutschel Zeta book scanner at 300 dpi. Edited with Multi-Page TIFF Editor.
