| Summary: | Henry Peterson and they make their home in Grenora. Paul farms in Orthel Township. Robert, who is married to Dorothy Oyen. They Uve in Grenora and he farms in Orthel Township and also the old homestead In Winner Township. Eugene married Elaine Schepp and lives in WiUiston where he is a salesman. Henry Peterson served many years on the Winner Township Board. The Petersons returned to Iowa for a few years during the drought. In 1939 they returned to North Dakota and have lived here ever since. When they retired in 1963, they moved to Grenora to be near their children. JOHN GREENLAND My parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Greenland, homesteaded about 8 miles southwest of Alamo at a place then known as Cottonwood Lake in about 1903. I recall a 4th of July there about 1908. There was water In the lake at that time about two miles east of where Alamo was later started when the railroad was built- an extension of the Stanley branch, which ended at Wildrose. It was built on to Grenora, near the Montana line, about 1915. Ruth, Clarence & Oscar Greenland Appam and Zahl also built up to the west. My most vivid recollections are of the early days In rural schools. The first one being a "soddie" with shiplap floor and a door and a window at either end. It was near the old Manger store and Post Office. One of our early teachers was Mrs. L. J. Reep, who now lives in Devils Lake, North Dakota- Other teachers were Clara and Gelia Solberg, also Olga Berg (Mrs. P. H. Oie, Seattle). The Helmer Krabseths now own and live on our old homestead and I have many fond memories of all whom we knew and met as neighbors. ANTON PETERSON Mr. and Mrs. Anton Peterson came and homesteaded in 1906. They sold their land to Lud Solberg In 1912 and moved into Williston for a short time. They then moved to Stanley, North Dakota. Later they moved to Santa Cruz, California where Mrs. Lena Peterson and Albert Peterson are living. CARL RYEN Carl Ryen and Ericka Hansen left their homeland In Norway and came to this country and were married at Hampton, North Dakota in 1903 and lived at Finley, North Dakota until they came to WiUiams County and took a homestead in Winner Township in 1907.
