TRIBUTE TO THE AYR GIRLS BY DORIS LENTZ Last year is gone, '42 is here, Folks are wondering what you'll do this year You've done quite well, in fact just swell, In keeping home our victory bell. But just the same I dare to bet- I'm confident that you still rate As the bestest team in all the state. In '38 we did it alone Without our two stars, Marge Stabe and lone, In '39 we did it once more, This time without Lila whom we had before. In 1 940 we lost our Jo But on with the title we did go. In'41 I'm glad that you could You showed that Lentz she wasn't so good. Now is '42 you haven't got Milly, But if you think you can't win, well don't be silly, Milly was good, a darn swell guard, But get in there and fight! It won't be hard. You've got the stuff so make a team So let's go on and fight full steam! You'll win the title, honor too, And show the folks that we're not through (Any game should be a cinch With our own long-legged coach, Lynch) Tish, I hear you're in there, too; Keep using your butt, you'll get through. Betty, you're too darn temperamental. You can't be good and yet be gentle Allie can do it, 'cause I think I know Forget about Jack and the way you'll go! Evelyn's from Buffalo, she should know how Get in there and stop them, you'll be a wow. To Addie Mourn and all the rest, I'm sure that you'll all do your best. But to Doris and Toots and long-legged Lindy I'll just close my mouth before I get windy. But if you play ball I'm sure you'll make The county and district and also the state. So with this poem, uptown I'll tramp And hope when I see you, you'll be the champs! In case this doesn't make much sense Remember, the author is Doris Lentz.
