He was the son of Ole and Guri Jonsrud Erickson. Berthine M. Bjerke was bom in Browne County, Minnesota, June 25, 18%, and came to this area when a small child, with her parents, Andrew and Johanna Bjerke. John and Berthine were married in Finley, July 17, 1%9 and settled in Golden. Lake Township where they farmed. The farm is now owned by their son Oliver. John passed away October 16, 1923. Berthine is at the present time making her home with her daughters in the state of Washington. There are six children: Oliver, and Mrs. Truman Simley (Alice), Finley; Mrs. Edward Tobiason (Mildred), South Bend, Washington; Mrs. Gerhard Amundson (Julia) and Mrs. Frank Hyatt, (Thea) Seattle, Washington; and Mrs. Leroy Armstrong, (Edna), Toledo, Washington. He spent some time in Minnesota before coming to Dakota Territory in 1%3. He filed on a claim in Golden Lake Township. Mrs. Thea Hagen Flesche was born in Aadalen, Norway, January 5, 18% and came to the United States with her parents. They settled near Faribault, Minnesota. Peter and Thea were married in Fertile, Minnesota in March 1%5. They came to Dakota Territory the following year and settled on his homestead. They were charter members of the Beaver Creek Church and Ladies Aid. In 1910 they retired and moved into Hatton. Peter died October 24, 1914 and Thea died June 21, 1945. They had seven children: Edwin, Clarence, Edgar, Carroll, Edna, all deceased; and Mrs. Olga Ness, Hatton and Edwin, Finley. V PETER E. FLESCHE was bom near DeForest, Wisconsin, January 18, 18%. ERICK H. BRAGER was bom in Hedalen, Norway, March 23, 1874. He came with his parents to this country at the age of two years. His parents, Erick and two brothers, Ole and Albert came to Enger Township, Steele County, from Wisconsin. He moved to Golden Lake Township about 19%, broke up the land and started farming one half section of section 8, Range 55 with his brother Ole, later buying Ole's share of the land. He also did some veterinarian work. While farming in Enger Township he did most of the work with one large and one small team of oxen because they could out-pull the horses. He married Randi Gurine Bjergo, of Fergus Falls, Minnesota on March 24, 19%. She passed away in 1929. He continued farming until his death in 1944. The farm is now owned and operated by his son Emil of Northwood. Adoph,.Geneva an George live on the home farm in Golden Lake Township. Other children are Grace (Mrs. Irving Anderson), Mrs. Clara Hagen and Mrs. Burt Jacobson of Finley, and Mrs. Gladys Leon, Fargo. STEPHANUS SKOGLUND and TONETTA ODDEN came to the U. S. from Valdres, Norway in 18%. They came to the Portland area, where they were married that same year. From here they left for Roseau, Minnesota, where they established a borne and lived many years. In the early 1900's they returned to Golden Lake Township, and purchased a farm where they continued to live until Mrs. Skoglund's death, and Mr. Skoglund moved to Minneapolis. They had six children, Selma (Mrs. Carl Knutson), Fargo; Olga (Mrs. Olaf Odden), Portland, Ore.; and Oscar, Gustave, Carl and Ole, all deceased. NILS PEDERSON, son of Marit and Thor, was born in a log cabin near Portland, North Dakota, May 20, 1%0. He was baptized and confirmed in the Aurdal Church in Portland and also attended country school and Bruflat Academy. In 18% Nils and his brother Peter purchased two quarters of land in Golden Lake Township, the N^ of section 21. For two years they lived in a shanty after which they built a house. Later Nils bought Peter's share and also more land. In 19% he married Mathilda Tolen. They were members of Bethany Congregation of which Nils held many offices and was the janitor for over 20 years. He was also a director of the school he helped build, known as the Golden T-ake Center School. Eight children were born to the Pedersons. They are Theodore and Albert of Portland, North Dakota; Melvin of Vista, California; Hjalmer, Joseph, and Mathilda (Mrs. George Erickson) of Hatton; Agnes (Mrs. Edgar Karlstad) of Mayville; and Norman of Finley. Being a lover of Music, Nils purchased band instruments for all of his children and helped finance the Golden Lake Band. He was also interested in athletics. After farming for fifty years Nils and his wife moved into Hatton in 1946 where they joined the St. John Church. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary with all of their eight children and many of their grandchildren present. Norman later bought their farm and is still living there.
