Christ Knutson, Jacob Erstad and Gunnar Kvande are yet Uvingon their homesteads. Many of the first homesteader's however, gave up their claims, and went back to their homes, while others sold theirs and moved away. Those remaining found it necessary to start a township so a meeting was called at the "Larson School" to discuss the action of naming and becoming a township. However, records showthattheycouldcome to no decision so another meeting was called for on Feb. 14, 1910 at which time the township was formally agreed upon with its township lines and the name was agreed upon— that of Ellisvllle, named after Mrs. Ellis Engel who with her husband lived ona ranch near the creek—the farm now occupied by the Eds on Bibler family—five and one-half miles south of the present site of Alamo. The first officers were: Chairman, Frank Engel; Supervisors, Ben Tranberg and Louis Larson; Treasurer, Charles Am- undson; Clerk, Louis Reep; George Tranberg, Assessor; John Carlson, Justice of Peace; Thomas Erickson, Constable and Overseer. People from the township were getting their mail from the inland postoffices: Cottonwood Lake in Rock Island Twp.; Angle P. O. in Rainbow Twp. and Manger Post Office just across the line in Winner Twp. Now all these people are served from the Alamo P. O.
