Summary:Ginger owns and operates Steri-Steam commercial carpet cleaning. Cameron Sterling married Ruth Prevo and lives in Tuscon, Ariz. Hazel's husband was an M.S. patient for 30 years. She cared for him at home. He passed away on Mar. 8,1981. Their 3 sons, Skip, Pepper and Ginger, served in the U.S. Navy and were the first 3 brothers ever to serve on the same ship, U.S.S. Saratoga, since the Sullivan Brothers. Harold Molmen passed away Sept. 10, 1956, while visiting Ethel and family, of a heart attack the evening of dress rehearsal at Pekin, the evening before the Golden Jubilee. Anne passed away Dec. 3, 1964, at Glendive Mont. Both are laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Glendive, Mont. Mr. and Mrs. Mathias K. Morken Mathias K. Morken was born Feb. 3, 1861 at Lesjaskogen, Norway. His wife Oline Rusten was born January 3, 1863 at Lesjeskogen, Norway. As early pioneers they homesteaded on the SW V* of Section 2, Osago Township. They continued to live on the farm and raised a big family. Oline died December 23, 1913 and Mathias died April 3, 1935. Lars K. Morken Lars K. Morken was born on Dec. 21, 1856 at Lesjaskogen, Norway. He came to the United States in the year 1887 with his wife Anna and two sons Julian and Axel. They first lived at the home of the brother Mathias Morken for a year. He homesteaded in the N.E. % of Section 1, Osago township. Two more children were born to them in this country namely George and Jennie. The wife Anna passed away on Oct. 21, 1891 at the age of 34. In 1895, he married Kari Skojolden. They had three children, Clara, Alfred and Emil. The wife Kari passed away March 6, 1930. Lars Morken passed away on his 80th birthday December 21, 1936. Pictures of the wives were not available. Dorothy - Lois - Donna Eugene - Irene - Emil EMIL & IRENE MORKEN FAMILY Emil Morken was born Jan. 6, 1903 in Osago Twp. Irene was born Oct. 4, 1900 in Rugby, N.D. They were married in 1929 and lived in Pekin for 30 years where Emil was employed by the state highway department and worked for the drayline. They moved to Lakota in 1964. Emil passed away on May 3, 1973. The Morkens had four children: Donna (Mrs. Harry Franzen), Spenard, Alaska; Eugene, Fargo, N.D.; Lois (Mrs. Idean Orwick), Michigan, N.D. and Dorothy (Mrs. Wayne Luehring), Lakota, N.D. MISS GLADYS PEARL MORKEN Gladys Morken was born Aug. 31, 1903, in Osago Twp., Nelson County. She is retired and lives in Lakota, N.D. CONRAD MORKEN FAMILY Conrad Morken was born in Osago Twp., Nelson County on June 24, 1888. His wife Emma, was born in Center Twp., Nelson County, on Sept. 29, 1981. Conrad and Emma settled in Wam- duska Twp. in March of 1920 on a farm near Stump Lake where they resided until their deaths. The Morkens were farmers and Mr. Morken was active in community affairs and served as school clerk and township treasurer for over 25 years. He was a member of what is now the Nelson County ASCS board for several years and was a director for the Nelson County Mutual Insurance Co. for a number of years. Conrad passed away in 1973 and Emma in 1967. The Morkens had one son, Omar, now residing on the home farm. Julian, Jenevieve, Ardell, Jeanette, Hilma and Irene Morken. About 1925. Julian Morken. Picture taken in the Pekin Cafe about 1935. JULIAN MORKEN FAMILY Julian Morken was born near Mos- joen, Norway, March 15, 1880, died Dec. 10, 1964. Julian, at the age of seven, and a brother Axel, four and one-half years old, and his parents Lars and Anne Morken, came to America in the spring of 1887. They stayed witht he Mathias Morken family near Pekin, until Lars could get a homestead at the NE corner of Osago Twp. which became the family farm. On March 12, 1914, Julian married Hilma Pederson on the farm home. Hilma was born in Furra, Nordland, Norway on June 29, 1890; died Dec 29 1966. The Morkens had four girls: Ardell, born March 2, 1915, died March 2, 1966. She married James Elsaas and they had two children, John and Ann. Next there were twins: Jenevieve was born Oct. 12, 1916. She married Joseph Mclsck and they had one son, James. Jeanette was born Oct. 12, 1916. She married Berger Anderson and they had three sons, Wayne, Jerald and Berger II. Irene was born Feb. 28, 1918. She married William Gann. Julian farmed most of the time near Pekin. In 1915 as a farmer he was very active in the Non-Partisan League of North Dakota. He also farmed a few years near Devils Lake, N.D., and was in the Elevator at Hamar, N.D. In 1931 the family moved from the farm into Pekin where they operated the "Morken Cafe" until 1940 when they moved to Chicago. Julian worked for the Merkle-Korff Gear Company as a tool supervisor, retiring in 1950 and moving back to Pekin. -72- Scanned with a Zeutschel Zeta book scanner at 300 dpi.
