Summary:a member of the Royal Neighbors Lodge and held postmastership under Wilson's administration. Tne post office then was located in the Wayne Monson residence, as the former building was destroyed in the Big Fire. Mrs. Deyoe passed away in 1935. Mr. Deyoe remained in Marion until 1938, taking care of farm interests and assisting in Deyoe's Cash Store with his sons. This business was continued until 1946 by Cecil Deyoe who sold to George Cunningham and Sons. Mr. and Mrs. Jacob W. Schneider Jacob W. Schneider and Mary Schneider were born in Germany and came to the United States in their early twenties. They were married October 4, 1888, at Henderson, Nebraska. Mr. Schneider homesteaded in LaMoure county, the location of the homestead being one mile west and one half mile south of the present John Mintner farm. The family moved to this new home in September, 1895 having traveled in a covered wagon in company with the Fred Spoerl family. It took three weeks to make the trip for there were many ups and downs, but they finally landed at the Martin Spoerl farm. They lived in a sod shanty the terrible winter of 1897, when their sod home was completely snow covered, with the exception of the chimney, and they were forced to dig their way out. The following spring Mr. Schneider was killed by gas in the well he was digging because the other well had caved in from all the heavy snow. Mrs. Sneider with her five small children lived on the homestead until she had it proved up. Mrs. Schneider passed away April 18, 1945, at the age of 80 and is buried beside her husband in the Dickey cemetary. The five children are all living: Mrs. John Kraning, LaMoure, North Dakota Mrs. A. H. Johnson, Ponaka, Canada Jacob W. Schneider, West Bend, Wisconsin. Mrs. M. O. Johnson, Seattle, Washington Mrs. B. Tucker, Hanna, Canada. Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Eidahl Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Eidahl came to this community in the spring of 1906, having bought a farm here in June 1905. They were married March 14, 1906 at Osage, Iowa, and two weeks later shipped a car of farm equipment and household goods to Marion and made their home in Saratoga Township on northwest quarter of section 12 where there was a small house and barn. These buildings both burned down, and a complete set of buildings were erected later. Two daughters were born to this family. Alice December 20, 1907, now Mrs. Olaf Lysgard and Alpha, January 1, 1910, now Mrs. Leonard Boelter. Mr. Eidahl passed away December 19, 1927. Mrs. Eidahl continued to operate the farm for a few years, but since her daughters were married she has made her home with them. At the present time she is at her old home in Iowa where she was born, now being the home of Mr. and Mrs. Olaf Lysgard. Mr. and Mrs. Orlando Draheim Cleo Keller came to Marion in 1907 and lived with her parents in a restaurant which later burned down. She began and finished her schooling in the old school building. Orlando Draheim came to Marion in 1916 and soon left for the army. He came back in 1920. They were married in September, 1921, and made their first home on John Trapp's farm southeast of town, now the Clarence Trapp farm. Here their first daughter, Blanche, was born Nov. 11, 1922. They moved to Waseca, Minn., October 1923 where Orlando worked in the creamery, first bottling milk then drying buttermilk. Here their second daughter, Beatrice, was born August 23, 1925. From here they moved to Fairbault, Minn., where Orlando worked in a garage, then they came back to Marion in 1927. Orlando began work at the Miller Elevator for A. B. Richards and they kept house for him as his wife had taken their son Alf out west for his health. They later moved to the old Valstead farm northeast of town now occupied by LeRoy Matzke family, but stayed only a year and moved back to town where Orlando again worked in the elevator. Their first son Rodney was born July 13, 1930. That fall Orlando began working as janitor of the school and remained at that job about 12 years. He also was substitute mail carrier for Francis Manbeck. Their second son Wayne was born September 16, 1939. From September through December of 1948 Orlando worked at Olson's Casket shop in Fargo, then January 1, 1949, began working as second man at Equity Elevator until September 4, 1949 when he left for Eureka, Calif., to work in the filling station in which his son Rodney was owner. Mrs. Draheim and youngest son Wayne followed in a month and October 12, 1949, they moved into their home which they had purchased. Orlando is now a partner in the Whipple and Draheim Filling Station located in Henderson Center at Eureka, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Jongewaard Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Jongewaard were both born in Iowa. Mr. born in 1864 and Mrs. born in 1863. They came to North Dakota in April 1904 and settled at Litchville. In March 1908 they moved to Greenland where they lived until 1924. Then they moved to Marion and lived the remainder of their lives here. Their farm is now owned and occupied by one of their sons, R. C. Jongewaard. Other children born to them were: Arnie, Fargo, North Dakota. Henrietta, Fargo, N. D. Janet (Mrs. Clarence Boom) Marion Mr. Jongewaard passed on in July, 1932, and his wife in September, 1945. Mr. and Mrs. Anders Opdahl Anders Opdahl was born in Norway in 1853. At the age of 19 he came to America. Mrs. Opdahl (Julia Melby) was also born in Norway, and came to America along at the age of 16. She made the trip across the ocean by a sailing vessel, which took about nine weeks. They were married 56 Scanned with a Zeutschel Zeta book scanner at 300 dpi. Edited in Multi-page TIFF Editor.
