Summary:Brattlie of Lisbon; Peggy, Mrs. Tony Brandenburger, of Ellendale; Daniel, member of the U.S. Navy, stationed at Norfolk, West Va.; Michael, member of the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Iceland; Tom and Vicki at home. JOHNSON, LARRY AND JEANETTE Larry and Jeanette Johnson and their four children arrived in Marion in April 1959 where Larry accepted employment with the Marion Equity Elevator. The family began in Hallock, Minn., in 1950 when Jeanette Simons and Larry Johnson were married. Larry had already started in the grain business. Stops were made in Argyle, Minn., and Sharon, N.D., before coming to Marion. They are parents of four children. They were all educated in the Marion Public School and confirmed in the Marion Lutheran Church. Nancy married Roger Pedersen of Marion and lives in Wahpeton, N.D., where Roger works for the Wilrich Manufacturing Co. They have three children, Troy, Lisa and Destiny. Kevin lives in Cheyenne, Wyoming and works for the Mountain Bell Telephone Company. Karen married Charles Farrell of Highmore, S.D. They live in Grand Forks and are students at the University there. They are proud parents of a daughter, Jill. Michael is at home. After living in Marion for several years, the family decided that they would like to be permanent members of the community. Lots were purchased in the south end of town and a new house was built in 1968. This is where the family still lives as proud residents of the city of Marion. JOHNSON, OLE Mr. and Mrs. Johnson came to this country from Toten, Levastotious, Norway, on the seventh of July, 1905, landing in Philadelphia. They came directly to Marion to stay with and work for her uncle, Peter Hendrickson, for six months. Then they rented land from Peter Knudsen and made their home in a cook car west of town until fall when Peter replaced it with a remodeled schoolhouse. They stayed there for 21 years and then moved to the Bakke farm for 6 years. They moved to Marion in 1928 and opened a cream station for Fairmont Creamery, in 1930 they sold this to Henry Meyer. Mrs. Johnson acted as midwife and helped usher many new lives into the world. They had one son, Henry, born Sept. 1900, who was 6 years old when they came from Norway. All are now deceased. JOHNSON, OLE B. AND HILDA Ole B. was born at Norde Froen Gulbrandsdahlen, Norway, June 18, 1863, emigrating to the U.S. in 1884 to Boyd, Minn. He moved to Ransom County, N.D., in 1889. He married Hilda Nelson January 7, 1892, she was born at Lanesboro, Minn., June 2, 1874, and had moved to Ransom County in 1877 with her parents. Ole and Hilda settled on a homestead in Greenland Township in March 1892, in a sod shanty. Ole served for many years on the Township Board and School Board. They lived on their farm until 1942 when they moved to Litchville. Their children are: Melvin, Peter, Anne, Henry, Carl (died in infancy), Palma, Carl G., Palmer, and Hazel. Ole B. died in 1944 and Hilda in 1945. JOHNSTON, HAROLD AND FANNIE Harold Johnston, son of the late Fred Johnstons, was born at the farm where they now live. On Dec. 2, 1927 he was united in marriage to Fanhie Schiebe, daughter of Henry and Marie Schiebe of Grand Rapids. In the fall of 1928 they came to the Marion community where they farm. They spend the winter months in Arizona. They have no children. JONES, D. R. Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Jones with their family of eight children arrived in the spring of 1888, from Fox Lake, Wise, and settled on section one of Meadow Lake Township. They encountered all the hardships characteristic of pioneer days, but with plenty of fortitude and self reliance, they proceeded to make a home and a big place in the life of the community. Mr. Jones was well known and held many Township Offices, later he served one term in the legislature. He died in 1918 at the age of 69. Mrs. Jones died in 1933. Their children are William (Ida Angevine), David (Grace Mudgett), Robert (died 1936), Blanche (John McKinnon), she died in 1907, Herbert (Anna Leavins), John (Florence Cooley), Agnes (Rudolf Brueske), and Anna. For many years the Jones home was the center of all social activities in the Clark City area, providing joy to ease the burdens of pioneer life. JONGEWAARD, ANTHONY Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Jongewaard were both born in Iowa. Anthony was born in 1864 and his wife in 1863. They came to N.D. in 1904 and settled at Litchville. In 1908 they moved to Greenland Township, where they lived until 1924, then to Marion for the remainder of their lives. Their farm is now owned and occupied by their son, R. C. Jongewaard. Their other children are Arnie, Henrietta, and Janet (Mrs. Clarence Boom). Anthony died in 1932 and his wife in 1945. After attending school he joined the United States Navy and served two years, from March 28, 1946 to April 28, 1948. He then married Jean McCleary, June 12,1948, and lived in the upstairs apartment above his folks, helping his dad on the farm. When Rich and Olga built their new home on the same yard, Dick and Jean moved into their old home. Dick has now bought the farm and is the third generation that has farmed this farm. Dick has bought another farm owned by his other grandfather, Pius Eisner, formerly the Chink Eisner farm. They farm the former Russel Monson farm too. He also is a carpenter and has built many new homes in the community. He drove school bus and was treasurer for the North Marion Farmers Telephone Company for many years, and a Township officer. Jean McCleary was born Dec. 4,1925, to Ward and Luella McCleary at home on the farm now farmed by her brother, Eldred McCleary. She attended the Greenland School and Marion High School.
