They had thirteen children: Dora (Mrs. William Bitz), Windsor, North Dakota; Jacob, Millerton, North Dakota; Gottlieb (deceased), Martha (deceased, Arther, Jamestown, North Dakota; Henry (deceased), Edith (Mrs. Jake Lippert, Lehr, North Dakota; Anna (Mrs. Christ Speidel), Gackle, North Dakota; Rosa (Mrs. Dave Tschetter), Ashley, North Dakota; Ted, Ypsilanti, North Dakota; Verna (Mrs. Art Mayer), Montepelier, North Dakota; Otto, Jud, North Dakota; and Emil (deceased). Three of these children died in eleven days of scarlet fever. Emil was accidently killed. Later they built a nice house on their homestead where they lived for 49 years. On January 7, 1947 they moved to Jud where they bought what used to be Al Raney's land office from Mr. John McRae. They make their present home in this building. Their son, Otto, lives on the old homestead. They are members of the Baptist Church. latmm^^am THE LATE GEORGE GILMORE George Gilmore came to the Jud community in 1906 from Kellerton, Iowa. He farmed on the farm where Richard Nitschke now lives, which is known as the M. W. Miracle place. His brother, Elmer, came and joined him a year later. He also operated an implement business in Jud from 1907 to 1911. He married Mary Stevick from Iowa on September 3, 1904. They had two children, who both died in infancy. Mrs. Gilmore died on June 30, 1909. Later he married Matilda Nitschke on November 7, 1919. They had five children. Ray, born April 27, 1920, lives in Eugene, Oregon. Ivan,, born February 24, 1922, lives near Jud. Viola, born December 4, 1924, now Mrs. Renan Stickler, lives in Paramont, California. Glenn, born March 31, 1927, lives at Jud. Delores, born March 31, 1932, now Mrs. Floyd Kingston, lives at Seattle, Washington. There are five grandchildren. Later they bought what was the Jim Brady farm. Mrs. Gilmore and Glenn and Ivan and his family are still living on the place. Mr. Gilmore was born February 28, 1877 at Decatur, Iowa. On July 18, 1947 while he was helping with the haying, he apparently slipped and fell off a haystack and he died a few minutes later. He was active in Jud Livestock Association and he served on the township board. MR. & MRS. H. S. HANSON This is their Golden Wedding Picture. They also lived to celebrate their sixtieth wedding an niversary. Mrs. Hanson was 84 years old and Mr. Hanson was 91 years old when they passed away. (See the Mikkel Johnson history). OLUF HANSON Oluf Hanson was born in Lofoten, Norway in 1874. The son of Hans Hanson. He came to Jud in 1903 from Brookings, S. Dak. and lived 5 miles east of Jud for 5 years, then moving to Phillip, S. Dak. where he operated a ranch. He passed away in 1952. He was married to Petrina Olson of Brookings, S. Dak. in 1904. They had five sons, Harry, Oscar, Hans, Ingval and Arlo and two daughters, Mrs. Lilly Kruse and Mrs. Anne Davis. He was a brother of Mrs. Nels Forsman of Jud. THE LATE JACOB HERR Jacob Herr was born in South Russia in May 1854. In 1873 he immigrated to the United States and settled at Eureka, South Dakota. On July 13, 1894 he married Carolina H. Olsen in Ashley, North Dakota. They, with their children, moved to the Jud community and homesteaded five miles south of the present site of Jud, Scanned with a Zeutschel Zeta book scanner at 300 dpi.
