Description
Summary:Forkortet:The region described is situated in Western Norway on the NW-side of theHardangerfjord between 60\u00B0 6' and 60\u00B0 40' N. At the close of the Ice Age theland lay lower than at present. Raised beaches and terraces mark thatsubmersion. From that time to the present the land has risen, in the westernpart of the district about 70 m and in the eastern part about 124 m. Fromthe mollusk-shells found in the terraces it is to be seen that the climatewas cold during the maximum of subsidence, but it grew milder as the land rise. The rise was interrupted by a submersion of short duration, theTapes-submersion, during which the climate was milder than at present. 35918
