Description
Summary:Precambrian supracrustal and intrusive rocks of the Raipas Group of supposed Karelian age are unconformably overlain by Vendian to ?Lower Cambrian sedimentary rocks, which have in turn been overridden by allochthonous rocks of the Kalak Nappe Complex. The Raipas rocks are divided into 3 formations; the lithologies of these units and of the autochthonous cover sequence are described. The structural history of the area includes a Precambrian, post-Karelian to pre-Vendian deformation episodes as well as Caledonian events. It is shown that in the north-western part of the window, the Raipas \"basement\" together with its autochthonous cover has been affected by high-angle, SE-directed thrusting and imbrication during the Caledonian orogeny. 35931
