| Summary: | The author sticks to his opposition against Trygve Strand's interpretation (NGU årbok 1955, pp. 43-56) of the metamorphic greenstone with Trondhjemitic veins in Sjodalen as \"gabbro-conglomerate\" of the Valdres Sparagmite sequence. He agrees with professor Strand in emphasizising the importance of the Valdres Sparagmite as a most valuable guideformation in the Caledonides. However, it seems that important facts in V.M. Goldschmidt's (1916A) masterly description of this Caledonian flysch-formation have been disregarded in interpretations of the tectonical chronology of the Caledonides, though the formation occurring between the two Jotum Eruptive Nappes probably provides the most convenient key for solving this fundamental problem. In this respect the author may refer to recently published extensive description of the Caledonides in Southern Swedish Lappland by O. Kulling (1956) who postulates an Eo-Cambrian age for the Valdres Sparagmite (l.c.p. 286) and declares (p. 296) \"the argumentation for Ordovician nappe formations is not valid\". Intending definetely to reject this postulate, and at the same time to give the backround and justify his opposition against Strand's \"gabbro-conglomerate\" of Sjodalen, the author has first summarized some of Goldschmidt's observations and his own investigations. 34998
