| Summary: | The five soil regions of Norway: The greater part of the deposits covering the rock in Norway were placed in their present position during the melting period of the inland ice. In studying the formation of soils two different stages of the melting period should be taken into account, i.e. those forming: a. The area left by melting of active glaciers, and b. The area left by declayed glaciers of the stagnating ice-sheet. The area left by active glaciers show: 1. A region of submarine end-moraines and intermediate marine deposits, i.e. a region below the late glacial marine limit. 2. A region sparsely covered by morainic drift. The area of the stagnating ice-sheet shows: 3. A region of glaci-fluvial and ablation morainic deposits in the valleys. 4. A region of dead ice traces on the mountain plains and along the ice-shed area. 5. A mountainous region showing frost-split rocks, solifluction phenomena and strucutral ground. The map on fig. 1 presents the extension of these regions in Eastern Norway. 35580
