Description
Summary:The first section of the paper contains a description of the occurrences of dolomite at the Porsanger Fjord, Finnmarken, Northern Norway. These occurrences have been described before in some detaile by Holtedahl (1918), who pointed out the large masses of pure and very fine grained dolomite occurring in this region. The present paper gives an outline of the geology of the region and more especially of the large island Renø which is built up entirely of dolomite. On the east side of the island there is a good harbour, Dypbugten, partly surrounded by cliffs of easily accessible dolomite of good quality. A section of the dolomite strata at Dypbugten is given on page 12. The table on page 22 contains several analyses of dolomite from this place. The second section contains a brief review of other occurrences of dolomite in Norway mostly based on the publications of NGU. Occurrences in Finnmarken outside the Porsanger district are first mentioned. Then follow descriptions of dolomites form Kvænangen, numerous occurrences of distinctly crystalline dolomite from Nordland, the isolated occurrences at Talgø near Stavanger and some places near Kragerø, and finally the dolomites of Gudbrandsdalen and Østerdalen. 35507
