Description
Summary:This document is a project report for a joint research project that was carried out by the University of Akureyri Research Institute in Iceland and the University of the Faroe Islands, in cooperation with the Icelandic Directorate of Labour. The broad goal of this project was to provide an overview of examples of strategies that have been used in the design and implementation of labour market services in selected Nordic peripheral regions. An emphasis was put on identifying and analyzing methodologies that have been used in the context of regions with a uniform economic base. The findings of the project contribute to our knowledge on how to design and implement labour market services in the context of peripheral communities and in that way add to our knowledge of “best practice”. The project report also provides the reader with condensed information on the current labour market service systems in three Nordic countries. The project is, therefore, significant to policy makers and for those administering labour market services not only at the national and regional levels but also at the transnational Nordic level. The project should also be of value to various other stakeholder groups that have a general interest in development of labour markets in the Nordic periphery.
