Summary:Part of the Australian Information Service collection.; "Mawson . a strange community where ice hacked from a small glacier behind the station is stacked outside the kitchen door for drinking water."--Printed on label on verso.; "Between December and March each year, at the height of the brief Antarctic summer, the Australian National Antarctic Research Expedition relief ship Kista Dan visits the three Australian Antarctic Scientific Research stations on Heard and Macquarie Island and at Mawson on the Antarctic mainland. On February 9 this year she pulled into the tiny harbour at Mawson.
