Description
Summary:Part of the collection of photographs of the British Antarctic Expedition lead by Ernest Shackleton between 1907 and 1909.; Condition: Mould damage some discoloration and some fading.; Title supplied by cataloguer.; Photographer unknown, probably Ernest Shackleton.; "S.S. Koonya was owned by the Union Steamship Co. of N.Z., and her captain was Frederick Price Evans. When Shackleton realised that there was insufficient room on the Nimrod to stow sufficient coal to make a return journey to the Antarctic, he appealed to the N.Z. Government for assistance. They paid for half the Koonya's costs, with the Steamship company absorbing the rest."--Accompanying notes.
