Summary:The CCAMLR 2000 Survey is the first large-scale multinational, multi-ship survey in the Southern Ocean since 1979/80. Conducted using strict method protocols and within a 32-day time frame it provides a truly synoptic view of the oceanography, zooplankton, krill, and higher predator biomass and distribution for the Scotia Sea and Antarctic Peninsula region. The innovative design of interleaved transects surveyed only during the hours of daylight has provided a comprehensive and robust estimate of krill biomass.
