Description
Summary:Monaghan focuses on computer models to study weather and climate, with an emphasis on climate change as well as on the impacts of climate on human health. His recent research, which shows that climate models have overstated warming in Antarctica, will help scientists improve climate models and better understand how Antarctica will respond to climate change. Monaghan is also involved in a project to study climate in Uganda, where factors such as temperature and precipitation play an important role in the transmission of plague. Monaghan works in NCAR's Research Applications Laboratory.
