Description
Summary:The Sunrise gondola prior to launch from Esrange Space Center in Kiruna, Sweden in June 2009. This view shows the back of the balloon-borne 1-meter solar telescope including the thermal baffles to maintain the main mirror temperature relatively constant and the smaller vertical light tunnel which transmits the sun's image up to the instrument package housed in the large rectangular mirrored box above the main mirror. Sunrise's mission is to investigate the structure and dynamics of the Sun's magnetic fields.
