Summary: | Analysis of Landsat 5 Thematic Mapper (TM) data of the Malaspina Glacier in southeastern Alaska has shown that fog overlying the glacier ice has reflectance characteristics similar to the ice below and that the spectral reflectance of fog can be different from other types of clouds. Fog is more reflective in the visible and near-infrared wavelengths compared to snow, ice, and cumulus clouds. The differentiation between clouds, fog, and the ice below can be enhanced by combining TM bands in the visible part of the spectrum. |
