Measurement of Characteristics and Kinematics of Sea Ice Using Microwave Satellite Data

Movement of sea ice was tracked with ERS-1 synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and validated with data from a drifting ice camp and by Argos buoys. Microwave data was better than visual data because it was not hampered by cloud cover.
