Description
Summary:The North/West Passage (N/WP) corridor follows I-90 and I-94 from Washington to Wisconsin. The Operations and Travel Information Integration Sharing (OTIIS) system provides traveler information on the eight state corridor-wide scales in a single website. This work presents the approach to ingest the heterogeneous data from the Departments of Transportation (DOT) of the eight states along the N/WP corridor, and from third party sources such as NOAA Forecast Database. This thesis details the process of fetching, parsing the data feeds, updating the database; introduces all the web services used in the project and describes how to resolve related geometry data issues. The valuable potential benefits of such data injectors would be not only feeding the OTIIS website with well formatted, real time travel information, but also facilitating the development of the API for potential use by other approved systems or developers.
