Description
Summary:Thesis (M.Ed.)--Memorial University of Newfoundland, 2010. Education Bibliography: leaves 110-117. This research study sought to explore the experiences and perspectives of educators in rural Labrador with respect to educating gifted and talented learners. To guide the exploration, the following research questions were used: -- 1. Do rural educators attempt to identify gifted and talented learners? If so, how do they do it? -- 2. What programming, resources and supporting personnel exist at school, school board and provincial levels to meet the needs of gifted and talented learners in rural Labrador? -- 3. What degree of support do teachers in rural Labrador feel they have to attend to the needs of gifted and talented learners? -- 4. What strategies do teachers in rural Labrador employ to meet the needs of gifted and talented learners? -- 5. How can programming, resources and further support for gifted and talented learners be improved upon in rural Labrador? -- The research findings revealed four major themes: who gifted and talented learners are, attitudes, knowledge of programming personnel, and support; these findings were used to offer suggestions for future policy and practice with respect to gifted and talented education.
