Summary:Ronald Dwyer talks about his life in Carbonear and shares some of his experiences from when he was growing up in Labrador. He talks about his school life and about fishing when he was young. He also shares some fairytales and recites a poem during the interview. 00:06- 01:13 he was born in January 15, 1911 in Chapel Hill in Carbonear, he was raised in Carbonear, he thinks he is a true Carbonear as he never went anywhere, he had only one sister and no brother; 01:23- 03:53 he went to school in St. Patrick, they went to school at ten a.m. and came back at four in the evening, he did not have any favorite teacher, reading, spelling, arithmetic were the subjects he read in his school; 04:00- 08:01 people used to do fishing, wood cutting, Ronald also did fishing in Labrador, they were paid 50 dollars in Summer, there were lots of stores from where they used to buy clothes, everyone used to grow their own vegetables, cabbages, potatoes were grown in the garden, they used to store flour for months, there was no fridge then, there was pantry, made molasses; 08: 16- 10:26 they used to eat chicken on Sunday as special meal, also on Christmas eve they had special meal, chicken roasters and lamb were eaten as special food in Christmas, St. Patrick’s Day and Christmas Day were the special holidays, people used to receive gifts and sugar candies in Christmas; 10:31- 14:27 Ronald’s grandmother had a special skill to massage the back pain, he heard old sayings from his grandmother like one man fell in love with a fairy and the fairy took the man when he was passing the sidewalk, people used to tell that the man lived with the fairy, there were other fairytales at that time heard about like fairies live in the hill; 14:31- 17:45 there were only three cars in Carbonear when Ronald was young, he had horses for the transportation, he never played and learnt to play musical instruments, he recites a poem he could remember hardly from his childhood; 18:01- 20:23 he shares his memories in Carbonear, about his house, people’s work in ...
