Summary:Hazel White talks about her early life on Freshwater Road, St. John's, about her school, and her favourite teacher. She considers Christmas a special holiday, and talks about the special meals she would have on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. 00:06- 06:58 White was born and raised in Freshwater, she has two brothers and sisters, her brother lives in the Carbonear, there was a big school in the community, when she was five and half years old she went to the school, she had three summer teachers whom she loved the most, there was a big stove in the school to keep the school heated, boys would collect the wood to keep the stove running; 07:15- 10:13 she did not do any job when she was young, they used to buy clothes and foods from the Carbonear, flour, sugar, tea and all other groceries were bought from the Carbonear, they used to grow their own vegetables in their garden, cabbage, potatoes, carrots were grown in their garden, everyone had their own gardens, White thinks that it’s good to grow your own vegetables; 10:31- 13:35 on Tuesdays and Thursdays they used to eat fish, soup and cabbage, especially on Tuesdays they had fish in their meal, every Sunday they enjoyed meat like pigs to have a special meal, Christmas was her special holiday, her mom baked big Christmas cake to celebrate the Christmas, her daughter was also born on Christmas day so it is special for her, she also enjoyed picnic, anniversary programs as other special events when she grew up; 13:43- 23:12 she does not now to play music, she loves to listen music, mostly on every Sunday she used to enjoy music programs in churches, but she says that it's changed over years, she does not know any dances and never attended any dance programs, she tells that she loved to attend concerts, she also loved to read poems, she does not remember any ghost stories and fairy stories, but she tells that there were lots of ghost or fairy stories people used to tell; 23:21- 25:00 she tells that she misses her daughter very much as her daughter died few years ago, ...
