Summary:Ted Noel shares his story of living his whole life on Freshwater Road in St. John's, and talks about his family members. He also talks about how he used to celebrate Christmas during his childhood, and tells a fairytale he heard from others when he was young. 00:06-02:16 introducing Ted Noel, he was born and grew up in St. John’s, he is living in Freshwater probably for eighty-three years, now there are four family members in his family, one son lives nearby in the Freshwater, another son lives in the United States for forty years, youngest daughter lives in the Carbonear, another girl lives in the Virginia, USA; 02:28- 06:38 used to do skating, swimming in the pond, playing games in his childhood, played mostly in the evening, used to go to school by walk, school was close to probably ten minutes far away from his home, it was a three rooms school, there was just one school then in Freshwater from kindergarten to grade eleven, math and literature were taught in school, he went to go for fishing when he was twelve years old; 06:43- 09:54 people used to do fishing, working in factories, made furniture and in paper mills made exercise books, there were some factories in Freshwater, in the 1940s the factories closed down; 10:04-15:26 in Christmas they used to enjoy with their school friends, most of the decorations were homemade, they bought few items from the store for Christmas, at that time music was little bit different than now it is, they used to play piano, Noel could sing, people used to dance but not too much like now, he also attended school picnics, he enjoyed school anniversary when he was young, lots of people moved from Freshwater to Labrador and other states, at that time there were lots of people lived in this area; 15:36-17:37 there were three general stores to buy things like food, people also went to the Carbonear for buying things, people went to both Carbonear and Freshwater to see doctors, they used to pay doctors five dollars a year; 17:59- 20:24 there were couple of drug stores in the ...
