Go down to what they calls Flynn’s Road, just down there, between that and going towards Avondale. Was she Joanna Penney from North Arm? I don’t know, I couldn’t say where she’s from. Was there any Doyle’s that lived over there? No, the only Doyle’s I remember were from Harbour main, Dinn Doyle and all them. I had an uncle Phil lived in there in Skibbereen, my father was Tom and my father’s brother was Phil. I have two or three more aunts and uncles but I don’t know their names. I was born and raised in Skibbereen and my father was too. My father was born in 1876. My mother was a Doyle. My uncle Phil went away when he was young, 16 or 17. My grandfather was Joseph Penney, his house was right across the bridge, where Maloney’s River is, there used to be a bridge there one time, now they have the culverts in. I’m not sure what my grandmother’s name was, maybe Mary, I’m not sure. I was about 11 when my grandfather died, he died after my father died, I was 10 when my father died. He was 52 when he died and he died in 1927. I can remember when I helped tear down the bridge on Maloney’s River, my aunt took most of it down on Bell Island and built a house out of it, my Aunt Mary Penney, she was a Hawco then, my father’s sister. I don’t remember my grandfather’s brothers. I used to have papers with all their names and ages on them, my daughter Patsy got them for me, if I had them now I could let you know all about them. I probably left them in our old house in North Arm. I’m the youngest child. I always wondered if my grandfather was born in Gasters. My grandfather’s brother Jim lived in Gasters. My grandfather used to live with his son-in-law Michael Hawco, who was married to my aunt Mary Hawco and they had a daughter Belle, she died on Bell Island.
