His family lived on Mullock Street in Georgestown until Dave was ten, when the family moved to Portugal Cove Road. Dave has lived in his house in Makinsons, Newfoundland for about forty years. During his career, he sold appliances and other items to business owners across the province. Dave has three children and seven grandchildren.

August 8, 2017 Andrea McGuire and Dave Dunn Introductions; Dave Dunn was born in St. John’s on November 20, 1941 to mother Catherine (Cooper) Dunn and father, James Dunn, who was a trucker; grandfather was also a trucker; 1:25 – family lived on Mullock Street until age ten; grandfather lived on Mullock Street as well, and owned a property where his stables were kept; this property was on a block between Mullock Street, Hayward Avenue and Monkstown Road, and is now used by the city for off-street parking; 2:25 – Georgestown was a “bustling community, lively as heck”; there were many convenience and grocery stores; “you could run up the street with a mason jar and get a jar of molasses, or you’d run somewhere else and get a chunk of cheese”; 2:56 – at age ten, family moved to Portugal Cove Road, though Dave still attended St. Bonaventure’s College; 3:30 – when family lived on Mullock Street, they had a summer home at the end of Long Pond; 4:20 – describes home on Portugal Cove Road; 5:10 – had “unfettered freedom” as a child in Georgestown; 5:50 – sometimes rode on father’s truck while he conducted his business; “that got you down on the wharves and the streets and the waterfront, and you got to see how things worked and how longshoreman gangs operated”; 6:30 – describes longshoreman gangs; “the pilferage was out of this world”; they were always stealing transistor radios, which “were the iphone of the day”; 9:20 – didn’t have to work for father’s business, but chose to do so; father sometimes dropped children off to fish in ponds out of town while he did deliveries.
