Memorial University would award Aloysius O'Brien the honorary degree

Four honorary degrees would be awarded at Memorial University's fall convocation sheduled for October 30, 1982 at the Arts and Culture Centres in St. John's. As a farmer and linguist, Aloysius would recive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree.

His mother's family came from Waterford and his father's family from Kilkenny in Ireland. He was a farmer and also taught himself the Irish Gaelic and botany. During his life, He was active in preserving and promoting the Irish-Newfoundland culture and traditions.
