As an Irish speaker, Aloysius was going to to visit Ireland to furtuer pursue his family tradition. John Mannion, an Irish professor at Memorial University and Randal Verran, an Irish man hoping to trace his family tree, will travel with Aloysius.

His mother's family came from Waterford and his father's family from Kilkenny in Ireland. He was a farmer and also taught himself the Irish Gaelic and botany. During his life, He was active in preserving and promoting the Irish-Newfoundland culture and traditions.
