Description
Summary:In the early-1800s, Nix Power married one of Thomas Nashs daughters and the Powers settled on the Hill above the Gut and Square. In the mid-1850s, another family of Powers arrived and settled on the Hill. Patrick Mooney (b. 1816) the first Mooney in Branch - married a granddaughter of Nix Power and settled at the base of the Hill, above the Englishs at the Gut. This explanation of how the Place was built is not intended to be a detailed historical account. It is a general overview of how land would have been cleared further from the Gut as the population grew. Nashs still live at the Gut, most Powers live on the Hill, Roche and ORourke are generally Over the Road family names. However, these are only general observations and different family names are found in all areas of the Place.
