Description
Summary:Oral tradition has it that several years after settling in Branch, Thomas Nash returned to Ireland to perform his Easter duties, there being no priests in the area at the time. On his return, he was joined by two friends, Bill English and Nix (Nicholas) Power. Each of these men married one of Nashs daughters and the community of Branch was born, spreading out beyond the first Nash homestead at the Gut. For generations, the land was typically divided between sons, with the youngest son keeping his parents property. As the population of Nashs, Englishs and Powers grew and other families joined them in Branch, particular parts of the Place became known as the home of certain families. For example, the majority of Powers live on the Hill in Branch.
