Description
Summary:Footage of Gros Morne National Park, Sticks and Stones House in Newfoundland and the Fortress of Louisbourg in Nova Scotia. The video was taken by Jeff Green from June 25-28, 1994 during a vacation with friend Chris Bird. Gros Morne National Park is a World Heritage Site located on the west coast of Newfoundland and is the second largest national park in Atlantic Canada. Gros Morne National Park Reserve was established in 1973 and was made a national park in 2005. The Sticks and Stones House was located on Station Road in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. The late Clyde Farnell spent over 25 years of his life meticulously decorating the interior of his home, using tiny stones and thousands of Popsicle sticks, arranged in patterns on walls, shelves, cupboards, ceilings and door frames. Folk art paintings and decorative ornaments completely covered every wall and space in the house. The number of Popsicle sticks that covered the walls and ceiling were estimated at 53,000 sticks, which Farnell bought from local children. The house has since been demolished. The video includes an informal interview with Farnell’s grandson, who was eleven years old at the time. The Fortress of Louisbourg in Nova Scotia is a National Historic Site of Canada and the location of the partial reconstruction of an 18th century French fortress at Louisbourg on Cape Breton Island. 00:00:00-00:01:55.
