Summary:This Decks Awash program features an interview with Pierce Pickett, who was a fisherman, schooner captain, logger, sealer, and World War I veteran. Pickett speaks of his experience fishing on the Labrador; sealing, including navigation without radar; the conditions aboard the sealing ships such as the shortage of water and the living quarters below deck. Also discusses the quality of the seal pelts and how to get the best price. Believes that the seal fishery should be subject to quotas, but should not be closed down.
