Description
Summary:butterflies "Allies" were not just for playing a game. They were the "currency" of the neighbourhood and a definite status symbol. "Allie" collections were prized like the crown jewels, and trading for desirable specimens was frequent. There were the large "allies" - "_bull's eye's_" - prized as 'collector's items', but not really fair to play against smaller ones. Of small "allies" - there were the common, run-of-the- mill "_butterflies_" and "_cat's eyes_". Much prized were coloured, translucent allies, or allies with beautiful and strange markings as of solid colours - red, white, black, blue. These we names as one names precious jewels - "pearl", "snowflake". Also much in demand were ball-bearings - also, because of their weight, used little for playing.
