Description
Summary:ball .we find traditional sports which go with the area. A sport on Christmas day in English Harbour, Trinity Bay, was "Balling" or as we would call it today "Bowling". [My Uncle] age 88 told me that they would have (9) pins, which they would carve out of wood and several balls made out of wood. It was the practice to set them up on the ice of the pond, in the shape of a diamond. Each person would pay 5 [cents] for three throws and the number of pins you bowled over would be counted for your score. This custom has died out in English Harbour and has been gone for a long number of years. Uncle Natten said that "this use to be part of the good old days." .I am sure that it [balling] is something like our modern day bowling. JH 10/71 Used I Not used Not used [see also 'puckin' keels']
