| Summary: | top-weight A game played by urchins in my childhood in Northern Bay (no doubt it is played elsewhere as well). It begins when one person "gets somebody down (i.e. pins him to the ground), and shouts "top-weight". Immediately others come and jump on top of the pile, also shouting "top-weight". The game ends when the person below makes such plaintive cries that his condition cannot be ignored, or else when some older, wiser person breaks the game up. This game was usually played at recess time in the school day, when there was the right mixture of boredom and superfluous bodies.
