| Summary: | toll v Every now and again when I was a boy somebody would get lost on the barrens or in the woods while berry-picking. As soon as the word got around the older people would be sure to say that the lost people were tolled away by fairies. Presumably the word "told" was meant to be "towed" away. . . . My grandmother had talked with people who had strayed away and they always said that they hadn't seen the fairires but had heard "voices beckoning them telling them which way to go".
