I've heard them used as far back as I can remember (around 1945). The terms are used by someone when he can't remember, off hand, the correct name of a certain object. He may call it a ting-a-bob, wossnim, chummy, chummy thing, do-jigger, wad-he-call, watchy-call, or ting-a-ma-jig. Not used
