Description
Summary:ringer n The wooden hoops [ ] used around casks overlapped about 10" - 18". It would be highly unlikely that they would ever be put on in a spiral. "Quiling" here refers to a specific procedure whereby hoops which have gone through a bending procedure called "breaking the hoop", on the "bendin horse", are quiled on a "ringer". The ringer is circular like the head of a barrel with pegs, usually 4, around the outside edges. The newly cut, split, and bent birch is quiled inside the pegs, where it assumes a circular shape. When twelve hoops are quiled they are removed and tied into a circular bundle.
