Summary:Boston n "Tom went off to [work in] the Boston (sometimes pronounced 'Bosting') States last month." Years ago most families in the outports had a son/daughter (or more) who went to the U.S.A. to work, and who sent money home from time to time to the parents, and this tided the family over many a hard time. I think most of them went (at least the men) to Boston, Gloucester and places like that to fish.
