We used to dig up every second trench and leave the other ones rounded up. Dis was allyin' up the ground. We put the potatoes (tatees) in the ones we dug up. When the tatees came up through (trew) the ground we used to put _capeln_ (caplin) on for fertilizer and den we used to take the mud from the rounded trenches to cover the capelin over.
