Summary:Newfoundlander landers" born elsewhere have no claim to the Newfoundland heritage? 3. What am I? Am I doomed to rootless cosmopolitanism? More im- portantly, can my three boys not in- tegrate and become "Newfoundland- ers?" 4. What term can I use for 'people who have had the "great piece of luck" to be born in Newfoundland' that is acceptable to all people in in- formal as well as formal situations? Which term "Newfoundlander" or "_Newfie_" is older? Are they for- merly written vs. spoken forms or were they always acceptable vs. de- rogatory forms? 5. To suggest that these young men were guilty because they did not flee the temptation offered by the priests and religious is to miss the point that if the youth were the source of temptation, why did not the priests and religious, who ought to have known better, equally flee the temptation? Is the bishop suggesting, however remotely, that there was a gang rape of innocent priests and religious? The seriousness of scandal is weighed by the position of the person who gives cause for scandal. No one can deny the high profile of the two priests already in jail. Unfortunately, their actions are not seen as the private sins of individuals but, because of their ...
