Summary:nuisance What is now Chapel Street was then Congregational Street. There was no Bond Street in those days. Where it is now was then Darling Street and it was to this that Congregational Street reached from Queen's Road. It was ap- parently in a good state of repair by the stan- dards of 1874. Long's Hill was Long's Lane and there was vacant land on the west side "which is a perfect cesspool for nuisance; the exhalation rising from it during the summer months is most dangerous to the health of the locality." So said John Kavanagh. Albion Street led into Rennie's Mill Road but I can't place it. It could hardly have been a pleasant place for a box had to be placed on the north side of the street "for the accommodation of the people of the locality to deposit their _nuisance_ in." Which of the streets connecting Monks Town with Barnes Road was then known as James Street. Wherever it was, it was constantly under water in wet weather. DNE-cit Used I Used I Used I
