Summary:Newfoundland dog The celebrity of Newfoundland dogs in England is so notorious that the value of them needs no comment, but their usefulness in Britain cannot be put in competition with the great utility they are to the people of this cold Country. . [in winter] This wood is sometimes cut seven or ten miles in the woods and is drawn home by Dogs. They have gearing the same as Horses; the wood is put into sledges which they draw, and sometimes they drag a single stick only, attended by one man who wears frost shoes.
